After a period of redemption, Mary starts her The Big Bang Theory villainous arc in Young Sheldon season 7, and unfortunately, it’s going to get worse moving forward. Spending some time away from her family to accompany Sheldon on his summer educational stint in Germany, the Cooper matriarch is now back in Texas. Initially, she found herself feeling out of place, although her presence helped Young Sheldon retcon George’s cheating scandal. Luckily for her, it doesn’t take that long for her to re-incorporate herself into the home dynamic. Unluckily, Mary is once again indulging her bad tendencies.
Mary has gone through a significant transformation in the last couple of years. After she was kicked out of Pastor Jeff’s church due to Georgie and Mandy’s unexpected pregnancy, she has been focused on her family. Separating herself from the congregation proved to have a positive impact on Sheldon’s mother. That being said, considering that Mary was a devout Christian in The Big Bang Theory, it was only a matter of time before she found a way back to her faith. That’s exactly what happens in Young Sheldon season 7, episode 5, “A Frankenstein’s Monster and a Crazy Church Guy.”
Young Sheldon Finally Introduces Its Perfect Replacements For TBBT’s Leonard & Howard
Sheldon’s Young Sheldon season 7 East Texas Tech arc introduces the prequel’s best replacements for The Big Bang Theory’s Leonard and Howard.
Mary Returns To Church In Young Sheldon Season 7
Filling the void of not having a church, Mary gets sucked into a new and worse one in Young Sheldon. Demonstrating how she can be manipulated if faith is used to justify intentions and actions, she willingly sends her new congregation money, believing that it would result in bigger returns from the Lord. Worried about his wife and her new fixation, George finds a way to bring them back to Pastor Jeff’s church, which he achieves. Now that Mary has returned to being a practicing Christian, expect that all the bad things that come with her faith will also resurface.
How Mary’s Religion Transforms Her Into Her Vindictive Version In TBBT
At the end of Young Sheldon season 7, episode 5, “A Frankenstein’s Monster and a Crazy Church Guy,” Mary is joined by George to attend service — something that hasn’t happened in a while. Unfortunately, the Cooper household being in harmony will soon be met with tragedy. George is confirmed to die in Young Sheldon season 7, and with The Big Bang Theory prequel slowly approaching its midpoint, it can happen anytime soon. The incident could further push Mary into her religious beliefs, which shouldn’t be bad, but the nerd-centric sitcom proved otherwise.

Young Sheldon Season 7’s Plot Twists Just Sabotaged Its Own Ending
Young Sheldon season 7 has pulled a few plot twists that only make The Big Bang Theory prequel’s finale more difficult to pull off satisfyingly.
In The Big Bang Theory, Mary was more devout to her religion than ever. That was one of her hallmark traits and Sheldon didn’t like it. Unlike in the prequel, where she can still be reasonable, the Cooper matriarch used her faith to excuse her bad attitude and behavior in the mothership show. She was racist to Raj, anti-Semitic to Howard, and misogynistic to Penny. Despite feeling offended, the Pasadena gang members were mostly respectful. Returning to church in Young Sheldon is the first step towards this path for Mary.
