Warning! This post contains a preview for Star Wars #45
Summary
- Mon Mothma’s strong leadership poses a security risk to the Rebel Alliance due to her extensive knowledge of its inner workings.
- The entire Rebellion is at risk when Mothma gets kidnapped, prompting Admiral Ackbar to scatter the fleet to prevent potential fallout.
- Mon Mothma’s pivotal role in the Rebellion and the security risk she represents will he further explored in Star Wars #45, available on April 3rd.
Star Wars is proving that Mon Mothma surprisingly represented a major weakness for the Rebel Alliance. Originally a Chandrilan senator of the Galactic Republic and later the corrupt Empire that took its place, Mon Mothma publicly opposed Emperor Palpatine’s authority for as long as she could before eventually feeding the Imperial core to become a leading figure of the growing Rebellion. However, it seems as though Mon Mothma’s strong leadership comes with a major risk as revealed between The Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi.
As seen in the new preview for Star Wars #45 from Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov, the Rebel Alliance is reeling from the sudden kidnapping of Mon Mothma during Lando Calrissian’s military tribunal. Having been present via holo-recording, everyone else at Lando’s trial could only watch as she was taken as seen at the end of the previous issue of Star Wars. Now, the entire Rebel fleet is literally scrambling with the confirmation that the entire Alliance is at risk if Mothma becomes compromised. Preview pagers for the new issue can be viewed below:
The high level of access and knowledge is a testament to Mon Mothma’s key leadership of the Rebel Alliance. However, it also proves just how much of a security risk she poses in this exact situation where she’s been kidnapped by currently unknown assailants.
Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What’s the best way to watch Star Wars? Here’s everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
Mon Mothma Was The Best Leader The Rebellion Could Ask For
(The New Republic Too)
Mon Mothma was part of the coalition that petitoned for Chancellor Palpatine to give up his emergency powers during the Clone Wars (along with the Rebellion’s Bail Organa and Padmé Amidala). However, Mothma held onto her seat even after the Republic became the Empire at the Clone Wars’ end, doing all she could to push back against the ever-growing acts of tyranny and oppression (all while working behind the scenes to aid in the Rebellion’s inception as seen in Andor).
Andor
Diego Luna stars as Cassian Andor in Andor, a Disney+ exclusive series set five years before Rogue One. The series follows the titular character as he transitions from a humble thief to a revolutionary icon of the rebellion against the empire. Cassian, a man who tries to keep himself out of confrontations post the destruction of his world, is shoved into the central conflict as he naturally slots into the role of leader. Andor will explore the rebellion’s burgeoning days and highlight pivotal events in the Star Wars Franchise before the construction of the Death Star.

Mothma continued to be just as crucial to the Rebellion even after she left, becoming a key Alliance leader who apparently knew everything about its inner-workings. While this proves how dedicated she is to the cause, it also means that the entire Rebellion would be compromised were Mothma to break at the hands of her captors. As such, it’s no wonder Admiral Ackbar orders the entire fleet to immediately scatter to random locations across the galaxy to mitigate the potential fallout from the loss of their leader who’s eventually elected as the New Republic’s first Chancellor.
Mon Mothma Also Represented Massive Security Risk For The Rebel Alliance
She Knew All The Secrets
Ultimately, the events of Return of the Jedi confirm that Mon Mothma will return to the Rebellion safe and sound in the Star Wars timeline. However, this issue will likely delve even deeper into just how crucial she is to the operations of the Rebellion (as well as the resulting security risk she also poses). Combined with the high likelihood that Mothma’s captors are likely working or Lando’s lawyer in a bold bid to have a mistrial declared, the mere idea presented that the loss of Mon Mothma would have likely ended the Rebellion right then and there is fascinating.
Star Wars #45 is available April 3rd from Marvel Comics.
