- Sensei Kim may take over Cobra Kai and hire karate prodigies to enhance their chances of winning in future seasons.
The perfect plan for Cobra Kai season 6’s villains has already been used, courtesy of The Karate Kid Part III. Thus far, the third installment in The Karate Kid trilogy has played a vital role in the narrative of the Netflix sequel series, specifically in regards to its last two seasons. The direction taken with Cobra Kai season 6 may only strengthen its connection to the film’s plot.
Both seasons 4 and 5 borrowed heavily from The Karate Kid Part III, with its main villain, Terry Silver, returning to the Valley, partnering with Kreese, and eventually usurping his role as the leader of the Cobra Kai dojo. Combating his convoluted and devious schemes and putting a stop to his efforts to take over the Valley took a lot of time, but in the end, Daniel and Johnny managed to defeat Silver. But regardless of whether Terry Silver’s story is over, The Karate Kid Part III’s influence on the series may continue to grow.
The Karate Kid Part III’s Ending Proves Terry Silver Could Have Won
Hiring a national champion was a calculated move by Silver
The results of the final fight in the 1985 All Valley Karate Tournament prove that Terry Silver’s own mistakes are to blame for his failure. Despite only having to do one fight in the tournament, Daniel came extremely close to losing to Mike Barnes. In fact, he would have been beaten had the villains’ strategy been different. Barnes demonstrated his superiority as a fighter over Daniel early on, but didn’t secure his victory because Silver told him to drag out the fight. Had Silver used Barnes’ talents correctly, Cobra Kai would have won the tournament. This mistake can be amended with a modern-day counterpart to Barnes.
Telling Barnes to keep the score tied, thus setting up Daniel to win with just one point, was a losing strategy, but hiring Barnes in the first place was not. After all, Barnes was a national karate champion, whereas Daniel had only won at the local level. Having a better background and more experience in formal competitions made him a compelling choice for Silver’s weapon against Daniel, and the clear talent difference between the two teenagers was indicative of how that plan could have paid off.
Cobra Kai May Hire Previous Tournament Champions
It almost worked for Terry Silver in 1985
Even though Cobra Kai didn’t win in the third movie, the dojo can still take a page from Terry Silver’s playbook when it comes to choosing who represents them in the upcoming Sekai Taikai tournament. Picking people with the pedigree of someone like Mike Barnes would be beneficial to any plan to win the tournament. For Silver, Mike Barnes was essentially a shortcut to victory; rather than taking an untrained kid and developing them into a fighter, Silver chose someone who was already a proven winner. Given the stakes and the timetable, Cobra Kai may do the same in season 6.
Cobra Kai seemingly lost all of its students when the kids exposed Terry Silver’s cheating in Cobra Kai season 5’s ending. Theoretically, it could lure some back, but it’s been weakened to a point where it’ll need to rebuild much of its roster. Considering that Johnny and Daniel’s students have already been training for quite some time, Cobra Kai most likely doesn’t have time to start over with unskilled students. For that reason, the dojo may instead recruit previous champions, even if it means handsomely paying kids and their families.
Who Will Be In Charge Of Cobra Kai In Season 6?
Kim Dae-eun could remain with the Cobra Kai dojo
As for who will be at the helm when these decisions have to be made, arguably the strongest candidate for Cobra Kai’s next leader is Sensei Kim. Part of her agreement with Silver involved her getting half of Cobra Kai, plus it’s important to note that Cobra Kai’s spot in the Sekai Taikai has already been arranged. Kim presumably has students back home in South Korea she can bring in, but the fact that she was leaning on Silver’s roster in the first place shows that she may not personally have anyone eligible for the Sekai Taikai.
Kim having several well-trained instructors in her employ in Cobra Kai season 5 is a sign that she may have the funds to hire karate prodigies in the vein of Mike Barnes, with or without Terry Silver’s financial support. Adding fighters with wins at the national level or higher to her existing roster will drastically increase her chances of winning. If Kim, or whoever else assumes the role of the dojo’s new leader, follows this course in Cobra Kai season 6, they may be able to negate any advantage Daniel and Johnny would otherwise have from all the time they’ve spent developing their students.
