Some Boomer categories fill out the Saturday Connections categories and if you’re not up on 70s music and 30s movies, you might score a loss on today’s game. Even with the specific nature of these word combinations, they are at least using pop culture references that can still be found in the zeitgeist today.
One of the best tips for any game of Connections is to utilize the shuffle button right away. There have been a handful of times where the game sets certain words next to others to try and trick your brain into seeing a connection that isn’t correct. Using this simple tool that the game provides can break that thought before it has a chance to root into your brain.

CLOWN |
RING |
TENT |
TRAPEZE |
There were some strong Halloween costume vibes mixed into today’s game and despite that, we still managed to pull off a win. CLOWN and TRAPEZE were the initial two words that had us thinking ‘circus’. TENT was the obvious next step and RING made sense eventually scoring us the yellow category first for today.

WIZARD |
The LION, the WITCH, and the WARDROBE desperately tried to trick us today, and we absolutely wasted an attempt trying to make that work. Clearly there was no proper fourth match for the three words so we ended up scrapping the whole idea. After a few minutes, we realized where we went wrong. There is absolutely an old-school story connection here in today’s game, we were just looking at the wrong story.
SCARECROW and LION kicked off this tornado of a category and the other two pieces quickly fell into place. The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz is a great collection of characters that continue to entertain children to this day.

SMOKER |
SINNER |
Joker was released in 2019 and starred Joaquin Phoenix as a down-on-his-luck clown who is… oh, this is the Steve Miller Band song from the 1970s? Okay, well, if you scored this one on your own, well done, you’re old. Personally, I’d prefer to be more like Doja Cat and shine like gloss, but to each their own. To be fair, the 70s song is a banger.
