Aiming to stay true to the original title, SVE strives to evoke the same feeling players first had when they picked up the original game. SVE adds countless hours of additional content with maps, locations, new events for every NPC, and over 20 new and expanded characters, all updated to work with Patch 1.6 of Stardew Valley.
Spoilers For Stardew Valley Expanded BelowThe farming simulator Stardew Valley has come a long way since it was released in 2016, and a flourishing modding community has evolved with it. There are tons of mods available to enhance one’s farming experience and SVE delivers in a way that feels authentic to the game. This mod came out in April 2019 but continues to receive updates. Modder, FlashShifter, even worked with Stardew Valley‘s developer, ConcernedApe, in creating the massive 1.6 update to the base game of Stardew Valley.
10 Coolest New Items From The Stardew Valley 1.6 Update, Ranked
Among the many changes and updates that patch 1.6 brought to Stardew Valley were many new items that players can find throughout the game.
What Is Stardew Valley Expanded?
This Massive Mod Builds On Stardew Valley In Many Ways
FlashShifter’s goal in creating Stardew Valley Expanded was to “give the player the magical feeling they had when they first played Stardew Valley,” which SVE certainly delivers. The mod includes many new locations, events, descriptions, maps, festivals, NPCs, dialogue, animations, and more to the game, essentially creating a sequel to Stardew Valley within the game itself.
In addition to creating over 20 unique NPCs, SVE adds new dialogue, events, and animations for new and old characters alike. Most of these unfamiliar faces come with their own schedules, backstories, personalities, and more, offering plenty of content to keep players busy while they wait for new Stardew Valley content.

How to Install (& Play) Stardew Valley Expanded Mod
A fanmade expansion with tons of high-quality content, Stardew Valley Expanded is nevertheless tricky to install for those without modding experience
New Romance & Marriage Candidate NPCS
Every Character Added In Stardew Valley Expanded
In case someone isn’t satisfied with the romance options in Stardew Valley already, SVE adds six additional love interests for the farmer to choose from. Each has their own fleshed out personality with likes and dislikes as well as unique heart events as they grow closer to the main character.
Character |
Description |
---|---|
Claire |
Cashier at JojaMart, but dreams of life beyond retail. After the movie theater is unlocked, she will work there instead. |
Lance |
An adventurer from the First Slash Clan, a guild that protects the Fern Islands. |
Magnus |
Originally a canon character in the game, his character has been massively expanded to include being romanceable and having a much deeper personality and unique events. |
Olivia |
Previously an accounting manager for Joja Corp. in Zuzu City, and has made a lot of money. Often seen enjoying expensive wine and fine dining. |
Sophia |
Owns the Blue Moon Vineyard, but is very shy. Players can buy wine and sprinklers from her. |
Victor |
Has a Bachelors degree in Engineering from a prestigious university. Lives with his mother, Olivia. |
Like other characters in Stardew Valley, each of these NPCs has favorite gifts that will earn hearts for them faster. For example, Sophia loves Fairy Rose, Fairy Stone, and Puppyfish, but hates Beer, Kittyfish, and Big Bark Burgers.
Stardew Valley 1.6’s Saddest Moment Foreshadows A Death In The Valley
Following the 1.6 Update, Stardew Valley players are encountering what could be the most heartbreaking moment in the entire video game.
Stardew Valley Expanded: NPCs To Become Friends With
Non-Marriage Candidates With Heart Events
Not everything is about romance, however, and SVE also adds many creative NPCs that the player character can become best friends with, without any romantic ties. Whether because they are taken by someone else, not the correct age, or not human, these NPCs are not interested in love. Building up hearts with each of them will result in fun Heart Events and a more engaging gameplay experience.
Character |
Description |
---|---|
Andy |
Owns the Fairhaven Farm (new to SVE) located in Cindersap Forest. He is a heavy drinker and supports JojaMart. |
Apples |
A young Junimo (mystical forest spirit from Stardew Valley) who appears after the player completes the Aurora Vineyard questline. |
Gunther |
An original Stardew Valley character, Gunther is now able to become a friend with heart events after 60 items have been donated to the museum. |
Marlon |
An original Stardew Valley character who serves as the leader of the Adventurer’s Guild. Now he has a full personality, heart events, and backstory. |
Martin |
A teenager who works at the JojaMart but lives out in the countrytown and only comes into town on the days he works. If JojaMart closes, he will still come into town to visit the library and will work at the movie theater after it opens. |
Morgan |
Morgan doesn’t appear in SVE until the third year, and is a non-binary child apprentice to the Wizard. |
Morris |
An original character to Stardew Valley who ran Pelican Town’s JojaMart, but has now been given a full personality and a bit of redemption arc. |
Scarlett |
Lives outside of town and is a friend of Sophia’s. She will come into town for festivals. |
Susan |
Runs the Emerald Farm from a new area in SVE, located by the railroad. Her farm specializes in juice production. |
Of course, Apples is likely the most adorable of character additions, and is a strong reason why many have chosen to install the mod. Having a young Junimo best friend is something many would want in real life as well as their Stardew Valley world.
Stardew Valley Expanded: Non-Giftable NPCs
SVE Characters That Just Add Flavor To The Game
As SVE expanded on many of the background characters that were in the original game, such as the Wizard, Morris, and more, it also adds new NPCs that do not feature much in the game. These characters might be talked about by others, sell items to the player character, or simply are shown in cutscenes, but add a little more immersion and realistic feel to the game.
Character |
Description |
---|---|
Alesia |
Member of the Adventurer’s Guild who sells the player adventuring items. |
Camilla |
A witch who fights off monsters in Calico Desert. |
Charlie |
Shane’s chicken. Seen walking around town after reaching Shane’s 8-heart event. She also attends Community Day. |
Hank |
Treyvon’s husband and Scarlett’s step-dad. |
Isaac |
Another member of the Adventurer’s Guild, will also sell adventuring items. |
Jadu |
A wizard from Castle Village. Currently only appears in the cutscene for Marlon’s Special Order. |
Jolyne |
A member of the Adventurer’s Guild. |
Peaches |
A Junimo friend of Apples who will appear in events related to Apples’ storyline. |
Suki |
Owns the Traveling Cart that opens in Cindersap Forest on Friday and Sunday. |
Treyvon |
Hank’s husband and Scarlett’s father. Owns “Treyvon’s Essentials” wholesale store in Grampleton. |
Suki does not have extra dialogue, but it seems that she is a popular person to gossip about, as many of the townsfolk will talk about her backstory. She has a daughter who recently turned six, and is from the Gotoro Empire.
Stardew Valley 1.6 Is Hiding An Extremely OP Item To Make Big Money
A dedicated Stardew Valley fan shows off how one item added in the 1.6 Update is actually an extremely efficient way to make stacks of money.
As more SVE updates come out, more NPCs seem to be continually added or expanded on. Many of the non-giftable NPCs may at some time be changed to have relationship meters and become friends. FlashShifter also provided a portrait and petting feature for Dusty, Alex’s dog that can be seen outside his house in the original game and there are new monsters the player can fight, in addition to the vast amount of extra content that comes with this mod. Between this and the many other mods available, Stardew Valley fans have a lot to explore outside the original game.
